PSLA Gives Back

March 21st, 2023

I worked with Cherry Crest leadership and Social Emotional Learning team to donate 100% of PSLA's 2022 summer camp profits profits to the PBIS (Positive Behavioral Intervention & Supports) efforts and 5th grade leadership program at Cherry Crest so that it can inspire aspiring leaders to help their communities.

I joined Cherry Crest Elementary in 4th grade, and was worried about being the "new kid", not able to make any friends. However, I soon learned that the Cherry Crest comm(unity) was such a welcoming place and taught me about how kind people can be! I made my first true friends there, and the memories have stuck with me ever since.

The two years I spent at Cherry Crest are still the best years of school I have ever had because of the encouragement, inclusivity, and kindness I learned. After graduating, I wanted to make sure that everyone gets to experience the kindness I did, which led me to found PSLA. My main goal of PSLA has always been to spread kindness and inspire kids to become the best, most caring version of themselves they can be.

As a Cherry Crest Alumni, my natural inclination is to give back to the place where I made my most impactful memories and had my first public school experience. I believe that Cherry Crest's values deeply align with those of PSLA. Both use methods of positive reinforcement (i.e. Charger Champ cards/class party in Cherry Crest; raffle tickets + prize box in PSLA), which works well and fosters kindness. In PSLA, kids celebrate the successes of everyone and lift each other up because they know if one person wins, they all win!

We would like to thank all the parents and families of the campers that made this donation possible and we look forward to serving the community for years to come.
